Connection stumbles again; Central keeps 100 percent record

Reigning Digicel Pro League champions, DIRECTV W Connection, made a losing start to its title defence yesterday evening as a Tyrone Charles lifted North East Stars to a 1-0 win over the “Savonetta Boys” at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

It was the second successive loss for Connection and, on both occasions, coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s men failed to score as last season’s million dollar men adjust to life without the departed duo of Joevin Jones and Daneil Cyrus and talented young midfielder Jomal Williams.

Things could not be better for Connection’s Couva rival, Central FC, though as the “Couva Sharks” pulled off its third successive win of the season and its second in the Pro League with a 3-1 triumph over Caledonia AIA.

Connection and Defence Force, who was on a bye, are already the only teams with an unbeaten record in the Pro League.

San Juan Jabloteh and Police FC are both unbeaten though.

Sterling Newton and Andell Noray scored their second goals for the club within a week as Jabloteh held Point Fortin Civic 2-2 while Police FC shot down St Ann’s Rangers 3-2 in the other match of a Marvin Lee Stadium double header.

Action switches to the First Citizens Cup semifinals on Friday as Central faces Police FC while North East Stars tackle Jabloteh in a Couva double header.
