History will be made in the 2013 Toyota Classic competition tomorrow evening if either Super League outfit Guaya United or Club Sando wins against Pro League opposition in the semi-final double header at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
Club Sando tackles defending Pro League champions Defence Force from 6 pm while Guaya United faces Pro League heavyweight DIRECTV W Connection from 8 pm.
Sando captain Teba McKnight is the joint leading scorer in the competition with three goals along with Defence Force striker Richard Roy and Guaya winger Kevin Jagdeosingh. Malabar FC attacker Gorian Highley and Point Fortin Civic’s Marcus Joseph also have three goals each.
McKnight is at the tip of a talented Sando offensive team that includes winger Devon Modeste, attacking midfielder Ryan Fredericks and versatile central midfielder Anthony Parris.
Resurgent winger Kevon Carter leads the Defence Force line-up which can pick between Roy and sharpshooter Devorn Jorsling and is anchored by capable custodian Kevin Graham.
Guaya’s resistance will be anchored by the formidable midfield pair of captain Ryan Stewart and ex-World Youth Cup captain Leston Paul, striker Carlon Huges, wingers Jody Allsop and Jagdeosingh and no-nonsense central defender Sherlon Campbell.
Connection will be without gifted defender Daneil Cyrus and forwards Jerrel Britto and Jamal Clarence, who left on Wednesday for Vietnam. However, the “Savonetta Boys” will still have the services of playmaker Joevin Jones, attacker Hashim Arcia, combative midfielder Gerard Williams and its adventurous full backs, Joao Ananais and Kurt Frederick.
Joe Public’s Super League team and Stokely Vale were the only outfits from outside the Pro League to ever qualify for a Toyota Classic semifinal. Both were defeated by North East Stars in the 2010 and 2012 editions of the tournaments respectively.
Sando and Guaya will hope to go one better tomorrow.
