SSFL 25: Toney saves Scarborough! San Juan relegated as three Tobago teams book 2026 spots

Scarborough Secondary preserved their Secondary School Football League (SSFL) Premier Division status on the last day of the season—and it came at the expense of San Juan North Secondary.

In a do-or-die contest from which only one team could survive, the “San Juan Kings” needed just a point at Shaw Park to avoid relegation while Scarborough needed all three.

The two teams were locked at 0-0 at the interval. But, in the 74th minute, the hosts struck off a poorly defended free kick.

And Jaheim Toney got the famous goal from close range, which ensured that the “Blue Marlins” will line up in the highest tier of the domestic schoolboys game for the second successive season in 2026.

As a further consequence, Tobago will have three teams in the Premier Division for the first time next year, with Scarborough joining Signal Hill Secondary and newly promoted Speyside Secondary.

San Juan North meet Carapichaima East Secondary in the departure lounge, though. They will be accompanied by either St Augustine Secondary or Malick Secondary, with the former team still fighting for a chance to save themselves on the field of play against Signal Hill.

If St Augustine draw or defeat Signal Hill, they survive while Malick are demoted. Should Signal Hill win—whether via the SSFL Disciplinary Committee or in a Premier Division contest—the “Green Machine” will go down.

Here is the line-up of teams for the 2026 Premier Division season at present:

Surviving teams: Naparima College (champions), Arima North Secondary, Fatima College, Malick Secondary/ St Augustine Secondary, Presentation College (San Fernando), Queen’s Royal College, Scarborough Secondary, Signal Hill Secondary, St Anthony’s College, St Benedict’s College, St Mary’s College, Trinity College (Moka), Trinity College East.

Promoted: Hillview College, Mucurapo West Secondary, Speyside Secondary.

Demoted: Carapichaima East Secondary, San Juan North Secondary, Malick Secondary/ St Augustine Secondary.
