The following review on the Legends vs T&T All Stars exhibition football match was shared with Wired868 by Tana’s Log:
On Friday, for the first time ever, I paid to go to the Hasely Crawford Stadium to see Trinidad and Tobago take on an opponent.
The problem with that, though, was the opponent was also a Trinidad and Tobago team with four Brazilian legends in it: Cafu, Kaka, Edmilson and Rivaldo.
Imagine my confusion when people were outside selling Trinidad and Tobago flags and bandanas telling fans to support your team. Against whom?!
Needless to say, I was more than a little upset for buying cyat in bag when the team list came out the day before the game.
They played fast and loose with their legend and all-star titles. It seemed like anyone who ever played for Trinidad and Tobago was considered either a legend or an all-star.
I get that they maybe were trying to even out the teams but some of the “all stars” should have been on the Legends team and some of the “legends” should have been watching in the stands.
The logistics in the stadium was in itself legendary. The scholars who organized the venue thought it wise to sell enough tickets to fill the uncovered stands while closing off two sections to display advertising banners on the seats.
Then, if making patrons stand in the walkways wasn’t enough, the Fire Services and announcer started telling people to find seats as if somehow seats would fall like mana from heaven.
Thankfully the police solved this highly complex problem and opened up the closed section. I mean, yeah, it only took them until the last third of the game—but better late than never, right?
The game itself wasn’t bad, if you don’t mind watching football in slow motion. It was like watching a boxing match between two septuagenarians, underwater.
Rivaldo looked particularly off the pace but I’ll excuse him, since his knees probably contain cobweb and dust. Kaka and Cafu were value for money but the T&T legends were disappointing.
Most of them looked like they have been playing more all-fours and beer pong rather than football.
All in all, it was nice to see our people enjoying themselves. They even started several Mexican waves that made its way around the stadium.
The game ultimately finished 5-5 with a hattrick from Kaka. I’m not even going to name the dude from the all-stars team who scored about four goals in nothing more than a shameful display of elder abuse.
Apparently, this guy is an active footballer and seemed quite pleased with himself for taking advantage of senior citizens.
Following the game, the Avenue was buzzing with tons of people, promo girls, riddim sections, police and drunk men arguing football. It was love in d house all over.
Only the clowns that kept driving up one-way streets and breaking red lights threatened to spoil d ting.
I had a good time. Would I go another legends game? Probably not.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…nah Palos.
