Dear Editor: Lewis Hamilton’s work ethic and performances are inspiring!

“[…] The Lewis Hamilton that we see today has nothing to do with the Lewis Hamilton that I met in 2013. And that is most impressive; that somebody who is performing on that level is still capable of getting better every year.

“Getting better as a person and getting better outside of the car and getting better inside of the car. That is something that is truly inspiring…”

The following Letter to the Editor, which pays tribute to the success of British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, a ‘black’ man of Caribbean heritage, was submitted to Wired868 by Tall Dog:

I’m writing to congratulate Lewis Hamilton on his extraordinary achievement of 91 F1 victories, which equals the record of the legendary Michael Schumacher.

Lewis’ father is Grenadian, and I heard him once send greetings to his aunt in Trinidad. I followed the career of Hamilton from his debut with the McClaren team in 2007; he was runner up in that rookie season.

The next year he won his first championship, attaining the feat with a stunning overtake on the last lap of the last race of the season to finish that race fifth, which gave him sufficient points to win the drivers’ championship by one point.

Since joining Mercedes in 2013, he has won five more drivers’ championships, and is on his way this season to equal another record of the great Schumacher—of seven drivers’ championships. By then I’m certain he would singularly own the most wins record.

This is simply a fantastic performance from the only black driver on the F1 grid… Ever!

The Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, had this to say:

“What impresses me the most is that as a human being he develops from year to year,” said Wolff. “The Lewis Hamilton that we see today has nothing to do with the Lewis Hamilton that I met in 2013. And that is most impressive; that somebody who is performing on that level is still capable of getting better every year. Getting better as a person and getting better outside of the car and getting better inside of the car.

“That is something that is truly inspiring.”

Our Caribbean domiciled sportsmen could learn so so much from Lewis’ work ethic, and his commitment to purpose. Big, big Caribbean respect to brother Hamilton. You’re another inspiring shining light for a people dreaming of greatness!
