Central pair Plaza and Fenwick cop Pro League awards

Central FC striker Willis Plaza and coach Terry Fenwick were rewarded with the monthly Pro League gongs today after their stellar performances in February.

Plaza, who scored six times last month including a hattrick against St Ann’s Rangers, received the Wendy’s Player of the Month prize from Wendy’s marketing officer Melita Sharma. And Fenwick, whose “Couva Sharks” are still unbeaten in the league this year, was the Blue Waters Coach of the Month.

Fenwick is the second official to win two prizes this season after DIRECTV W Connection coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier. The former England international defender also won the prize in September while Fevrier, a St Lucian native, received the award for the months of October and November/December.

Plaza, a Trinidad and Tobago international, praised God for his success with Central so far.

“It’s like prayers coming through for me,” Plaza told the Pro League website. “It’s all that I’ve been praying for—like this (award) and being on the national team are blessings from the Lord above. So praise and thanks to Him.”

Plaza started his top flight career with San Juan Jabloteh and spent two seasons in Vietnam with Navibank Sai Gon and Song Lam Nghe before returning to Trinidad late last year. Now, he says he is enjoying football again and hailed his impact with the Sharks.

He has his eyes set on the Pro League scoring race, which is led by Point Fortin Civic attacker Marcus Joseph’s 12 goals.

“I’m already making my family and friends proud, so it inspires me to keep working hard, because without hard work every day, things aren’t possible,” said Plaza. “I’ve made a great difference at Central (and) I want to continue and help the team finish in the top two. I know Connection (is) very hard to compete with (at this stage) but I’m focused on doing my best…

“I’m also looking at the Golden Boot. I’m six goals behind the leading scorer and it’s just for him to slip up… and I’m (ahead).”
