Intercol 25: St George’s stun Trinity East in East quarters; “Saints” sink QRC 3-0

St George’s College produced the shock of the 2025 Intercol competition so far today, as they stunned Trinity College East 4-3 via penalty kicks after a 1-1 finish in their East Intercol quarterfinals at TCE ground in Trincity.

The result marks the first time in this season that a Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division team fell to a second-tier outfit.

St George’s College players pose before kickoff against Trinity College East in an East Zone Intercol quarterfinal affair in Trincity on 17 November 2025.

At present, Trinity East are 11th from 16 teams in the SSFL top flight while St George’s finished third from five schools in the East Championship Division.

Trinity East opened the scoring in the 38th minute through 15-year-old midfielder Nyrell Roberts. However, the “Blue Hawks” could not stretch their lead against the plucky underdogs.

And, in the last minute of regulation time, talented attacker Kellon John grabbed an unlikely equaliser to send the game to penalties.

Young St George’s goalkeeper Siddiq Hameed stole the show from then on with two penalty saves, as the Barataria-based school completed the giant slaying routine with a memorable 4-3 win.

There were no such fairytale results in south Trinidad, as Presentation College (San Fernando) and Naparima College torched Point Fortin East Secondary and Rio Claro West Secondary 16-0 and 15-0 respectively.

Flanker Roshaun Doobay scored six times for the “Pres Lions” while forward Isaiah “Baby Hulk” Jacob got four, which took his personal tally this season to an unprecedented 26 goals.

Attacker Ryan Radellant led Naparima’s scorers with five goals against Rio Claro West, while Darius Procope and Xarion France both got doubles.

In contrast, St Benedict’s College’s 7-0 triumph over Siparia West Secondary seemed like a close affair.

Midfielder Josiah Ochoa leads the scorers for the “La Romaine Lions” this season with 10 Premier Division goals—and he added to his season’s haul with a hattrick today.

St Benedict’s and Presentation will meet in one South Intercol semifinal, with Naparima due to meet the winner of Pleasantville Secondary and Palo Seco Secondary.

However, Palo Seco’s Intercol engagement is delayed to a postponed First Citizens Big Five fixture against Speyside Secondary. And, as a consequence, fans of St Benedict’s, Naparima and Presentation (San Fernando) must wait for the SSFL Fixtures Committee, headed by Laurence Seepersad, to find a solution.

There was North Zone Intercol quarterfinal action today as well and the marquee match-up was a clash between SSFL oldest rivals, Queen’s Royal College and St Mary’s College.

QRC finished the season in ninth place with St Mary’s tenth, but the final scoreline suggested a straightforward affair for the latter team—as the “Saints” marched on with a 3-0 triumph.

St Mary’s will face Fatima College in the semifinal round, after Fatima downed East Mucurapo Secondary 3-0 today. The other North Zone semifinal will feature Malick Secondary against either St Anthony’s College or Mucurapo West Secondary.
