SSFL 23: Bishop’s hold Trinity while Speyside and QRC tie in rescheduled fixtures

Bishop’s High School managed their second positive result of the season today, as they held Trinity College East 2-2 in Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division action in Tobago.

The result moved Bishop’s off the foot of the table and up to 14th in the 16-team standings. However, with four points and two games in hand, they have no chance of leapfrogging 13th place Queen’s Royal College to safety.

QRC, incidentally, picked up a point as well in another rescheduled fixture as they recovered from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Speyside High at the Speyside Recreation Ground.

The point saw Speyside hurdle St Mary’s College to 10th place. And the Tobago outfit could potentially climb as high as eighth if they manage a win away to Trinity East on Friday and other results go their way.

With Fatima College already crowned 2023 champions and Bishop’s, Chaguanas North Secondary and cellar-placed Pleasantville Secondary assured of relegation, there is only pride at stake in the final round of matches.

At Serpentine Road in St Clair, St Mary’s College would hope to pull the toe of long-time rivals, Fatima, when they meet in their final league fixture of the season.

Presentation College (San Fernando) and Naparima College each would hope to finish on a high and, better yet, above the other. While Arima North Secondary, in their first top flight season for nearly a decade, will try to end with a flourish away to QRC.

More important, Trinidad and Tobago’s top schoolboy football teams would hope for some momentum as they prepare for the National Intercol tournament, which kicks off in the East, North and South Zones on Monday 6 November.
