The Ministry of Health revealed 708 new cases of Covid-19 today, which is the highest figure given in a daily update since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020. The positives came from 1,354 samples taken between the period of 14 and 20 May. There were also seven deaths.
With 7,488 active cases and 407 persons hospitalised, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is unlikely to have seen any data that would justify lifting current restrictions this weekend—as the government’s initial measures to slow the infection rate were meant to expire on 23 May.

Trinidad and Tobago has had 8,111 positive cases and 179 deaths this month, while there have been 18,935 infections and 348 deaths since March 2020.
