You will be missed, Poots! Clayton Morris pays respect to late Futsal talent, Akil Stafford

“He was the second highest goal scorer in his team, a very skilful player, smooth on the ball, understood his role and responsibilities, very easy going individual, soft spoken [and] always willing to carry out instructions… Akil was a true blessing to all of us.”

Trinidad and Tobago National Men’s Futsal Team coach and former Strike Squad captain Clayton “JB” Morris pays homage to 24 year old former Futsal star, Akil “Poots” Stafford, who drowned in Blanchisseuse yesterday after a hike:

The members of Trinidad and Tobago National Men’s Futsal Team are extremely saddened by the untimely passing of former training squad member, Akil Stafford.

Akil was a key player for the Jaguars team during the 2015 National Futsal League. He was the second highest goal scorer in his team, a very skilful player, smooth on the ball, understood his role and responsibilities, very easy going individual, soft spoken [and] always willing to carryout instructions.

I have had the opportunity to coach Akil with the United Petrotrin Under-16 Team for the Youth Pro League with the UTT Football Team during our 2017 pre-season. He will surely be missed by all those who knew him.

To his family, please know that Akil was a true blessing to all of us. On behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago National Men’s Futsal Team Training Squad and my family, we ask for God’s Strength to cope in this period of deep grief.

  5. I’m saddened. How did this young man drown! I belong to the oldest hiking club in T&T and they’ve never lost a hiker because of their ‘no man left behind’ policy and safety practices.
