SSFL 24: San Juan North host Speyside on Tue, in key rescheduled match-up

San Juan North Secondary and Speyside High will clash a day ahead of schedule at Bourg Mulatresse tomorrow, as the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division enters Match Day 13.

The change in date is due to travel complications for the visiting Speyside team.

At the end of the 2024 season, the bottom three teams will be relegated to the Championship Division. And, at present, six schools are in danger of the drop.

Signal Hill Secondary (10 points), San Juan North (10 points) and Speyside (9 points) are surely too close for comfort to the exit, with 16th place East Mucurapo Secondary on six points and 15th place Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School and 14th place Trinity College East on seven points each.

As such, tomorrow afternoon’s affair is a crucial match for either side as they try to secure their top flight berths for 2025.

Trinidad and Tobago National Under-20 Team attacker Lindell Sween, who has two National Senior Team caps, is San Juan’s most recognisable figure, although he has just two goals for his school this season so far.

San Juan have not won any of their last six outings and managed only one draw during that period. Coach Jerry Moe would hope that Sween helps to change that tomorrow.

For Speyside, Trinidad and Tobago National Under-16 midfielder Riquelme Phillips has looked sharp with seven goals from 10 matches so far while they recorded draws on the road against Naparima College and Fatima College earlier this month.

They will hope to leave Bourg Mulatresse with something tangible.

On Wednesday, the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium hosts the game of the season so far with leaders St Benedict’s College facing second placed Presentation College (San Fernando).

Almost certainly, it is a fixture that will decide the destination of the 2024 Premier Division trophy.
