Pro League round-up: M’vt Caledonia held goalless by AC PoS; plus midweek fixtures

Morvant Caledonia United missed a chance to climb one spot to third place in the Pro League standings today, as they were held goalless by AC Port of Spain in action at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.

For AC, the result marked the first time this season that they have managed successive games without defeat. Their point today is added to three points secured last Tuesday with a last gasp 1-0 win over Tiger Tanks Club Sando at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.

At present, Morvant Caledonia are fourth in the 11-team standings with 17 points and trail leaders Defence Force FC by six points. AC are eighth with 11 points, which are seven more than bottom placed Cunupia FC.

AC, coached by Walt Noriega, will hope to keep their unbeaten run going on Wednesday when they face ninth placed Central FC at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. And, on the same day, Morvant Caledonia will hope to return to winning ways at the Ato Boldon Stadium against a W Connection team that is on a two-game losing streak.

Undoubtedly, the match of the round will be Defence Force’s trip to Phase 2, La Horquetta from 7pm on Tuesday to challenge second place Terminix La Horquetta Rangers.

The Army/Coast Guard combination are four points clear of Rangers and will take a sizeable step towards the 2019/20 title with a win. However, Rangers are red hot on their home turf right now. Not only have they not lost at Phase 2 in this competition—but they managed a remarkable 27 goals with five conceded from five outings there, which is a striking difference to six goals scored and eight conceded in as many game away from home for the Dave Quamina coached team.
