Letter to TTGF: When was Marisa’s flight booked? Where is Thema’s medical report?

“At what point were flights for Marisa Dick and Ricardo Lue Shue booked? Were the funds used for the booking cleared by the standard practices of the body?”

A ‘concerned citizen’, Ian M.S. Royer, wrote yesterday to Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation president David Marquez demanding answers:

Dear Mr Marquez,

Re: A request for transparent responses regarding the disbarment of Thema Williams from the 17 April 2016 Olympic Qualifier in Rio, Brazil.

Further to the subject matter, and in pursuant with the Memorandum of Understanding for transparency in Olympic matters signed by the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee; and as a concerned citizen, I am making a formal request for questions to be answered transparently, as communication to the public has been sparse and leaves several questions unanswered.

As part of your presidential responsibility, as per the charter.

As a point of public interest please advise on the following matters:

  1. Upon receipt of the report from Coach John Geddert, did the TTGF request an official medical report from Rio as to her capability to perform from the medical team in Brazil, from the Coach, or from the physiotherapist under the employ of the TTGF? It must be noted, after reading all agreements and charters, I understand the Coach and Physiotherapist are the only people who can declare an athlete unfit to perform at an event. Kindly provide the public with such documentation, or admission of unfit for performance from Coach and Physiotherapist;

2) Without the documentation listed above, on who’s recommendation was the decision to disbar Thema Williams brought to the board for a vote? Also what qualified them to make this assumption from an email and no clarification?

3) Statements made by the TTGF state that a vote was unanimous, please share minutes of the vote be made public, clearly outlining the voting members;

4) Is there a personal connection between board members Donna Lue Shue and Ricardo Lue Shue to Marisa Dick? Images circulated via the internet and emails indicating a conflict of interest have been highlighted but not addressed;

5) At what point were flights for Marisa Dick and Ricardo Lue Shue booked? Were the funds used for the booking cleared by the standard practices of the body?

6) Initially arbitration between the TTGF and Thema Williams were supposed to be executed, but it is reported that these were stalled due to the underrepresentation of the TTGF, can you confirm?

Now more than ever, the integrity of the TTGF and its board is being held into question, not only this but the public of Trinidad and Tobago, the Trinidad Olympic Committee, stakeholders and financiers, require and demand that a coherent and documented case be presented by the TTGF to show transparency and fairness to all athletes.

Thank you for your kind consideration in this matter, a timely response directed at the public of Trinidad and Tobago would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ian MS Royer, PHF

  1. Games is what TT politicians be they in sport or otherwise

  2. Thank you Ian MS Royer, PHF! We demand answers!

  3. Will we ever get an official response from TTGF so that we can understand what really happened? Why is it, in this failed state we live in, that the FACTS are never made public?

  5. Thanks Ian Michado Sebastian Royer #citizenpower

  6. People calling on the minister to act need to be patient, there are legal and other challenges his intervention could complicate. I am sure he is well advised so let this play out and hopefully justice will be served. Remember also Williams and Dick are not the only athletes in the federation and in our haste to get rid of the executive could cause more harm than good. Please be patient.

  7. I am ready for Wired to take a turn in Minister Smith’s tail. Whoever is advising him to be neutral is clueless. This issue has gone past sports, it is being debated now as an issue on classism and racism. So to escape that we need the Minister to intervene so it returns to what it should be, an issue about athletes and the administrative body which governs those athletes.

  8. Since the last update I was wondering about that ticket purchase. I think that will put the nail in the coffin and confirm that Dick’s camp was part of this fight against Thema!

  9. Little black girl in the white people sport

  10. As the plot thickens we are seeing without doubt the callousness and acrimonious behavior of the ttgf board to deny someone their rightful place to represent this country in favour of someone who has no ties to our country. What is even more worrying is the min of sport decision to take the ethical approach rather than a moral one is equivalent to him not acting at all and shows gross ineptitude. The minister of sport does have a fiduciary responsibility to citizens to account for how tax dollars are being spent by funding NSOs more so if the boards of these organizations are engaging in nefarious practices then the minister of sport ought to have make a decision to either cease and withhold funding until an investigation into the matter is done to ensure no misappropriation of funds occur and to ensure the conduct of the board is transparent and their policies can withstand scrutiny. Which in this case is called into question

  11. Stevie Wonder saw that was their plan

  12. Shameful, But not new when it comes to big events and tours of sporting teams in T&T.

    Finally exposed

  13. Once we get those two questions answered the problem will be solved…..also who was the head of the Delegation?….because that report is most critical…..

  14. They aren’t going to answer anything.

  15. #4 – you also might ask about the relationship between the Dows and Marisa

  16. From very start they had a plan Dick in Thema out!

  17. Who is Ian Michado Sebastian Royer? Is Ian Michado Sebastian Royer married? Does he require wife? I am willing because I not going to come across a man so again in a while.

  18. Ask them to produce documentary evidence of when reservation was made ticket issued paid for. Get a clear time line established
    We can’t afford to have that kind of subterfuge coming from people in sport especially given the Olympic Spirit and what it stands for and the example we are trying to set for these young ladies. It should be for the love of the sport and not the appeasement of egos.
    Teach Marquez Lue Shue and company a lesson DISHONESTY must NOT win in this matter
    Let light triumph over the dark pall that hangs over the TTGF.
    The BOARD must GO NOW!!!!
