Open Bible: God is not racist, Trinbagonians must stop tearing down each other

“God is not racist. He is the God who loves us, having created every one of us in His image…

“Even though it is natural to have an affinity or a special love for the particular ethnicity or race into which we were born, that affinity should not be the basis to look down upon, ill-speak and ill-treat, harm, endanger, or destroy others of a different ethnicity or race…”

The following Letter to the Editor on confronting racism in Trinidad and Tobago was submitted to Wired868 by Reverend Indra Dabideen on behalf of the Open Bible Standard Churches:

The Open Bible Standard Churches of Trinidad and Tobago Inc (OBSCTT) urges everyone to reject racism in all its forms, outright. We take this stance on the grounds that:

  1. God is not racist. He is the God who loves us, having created every one of us in His image. The Book of Acts tells us that God ‘has made every nation of humanity to live all over the earth. He has given them the seasons of the year and the boundaries within which to live. He has done this so that they would look for God, somehow reach for him, and find him. In fact, he is never far from any one of us’. Acts 17:26-27 (GW)
  2. Racism has shown itself to be very destructive in every nation where it has taken root and been allowed to flourish, damaging populations in many nations;
  3. Even though it is natural to have an affinity or a special love for the particular ethnicity or race into which we were born, that affinity should not be the basis to look down upon, ill-speak and ill-treat, harm, endanger, or destroy others of a different ethnicity or race;
  4. We in Trinidad and Tobago—with our many races and ethnicities, and the fact that many are of mixed heritage—have been able to co-exist in a generally harmonious manner despite occasional flare-ups. However, this most recent attempt to cause racial tension and conflict in our nation must be stopped before it goes any further.

As a result, we call upon all of us to reject racism, and not to fan the flames of racism but to live consistently and constantly by and teach mutual respect and appreciation for each other.

  1. Didn’t the Christian Gawd create the races when he saw the people building the Tower of Babel and scattered them across the world, speaking different languages?! Genesis 11:1–9

    “Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease.

    “Against stupidity we are defenceless.

    Neither protests nor the use of force accomplishes anything here;
    reasons fall on deaf ears;
    facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed
    – in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical –
    and when facts are irrefutable, they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental.

    “In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self-satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack. For that reason, greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one.

    “Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.”

    Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  2. Hi Indra,
    As you may know, “god” as a concept from abrahamic faiths (Christ-ianity, Islam, judaism) ,believes that race-ism is inherently wrong because one’s physical body is “god”‘s loving creation, and that all humans are his equally loved creations and children. Also, one’s actions and soul, not the physical body it resides in are deemed valuable. However, as you may know in brahman-ism (“Hindu-ism”), there is an opposing concept of 33+ million ‘”Gods”, and one’s race, based on skin colour and facial features, are deemed to be inherently representative of “good” karma (light skin, european-esque facial features), or “bad” karma (Dark/black skin & african facial features). Therefore, brahman-ists (“Hindus”), believe race-ism/white supremacy, to be a divine concept. The ramlila celbrates the white god ram, brutally ending the black/”evil Demon” rawan, who untouchables say is their ancestor and is a racist mockery of their people. See for yourself below
