Ascension wrap: Caledonia, Police keep winning momentum

Police FC striker Jameel Perry got his second consecutive double yesterday afternoon and it meant back to back Ascension Invitational wins for the ‘Lawmen’ as they downed FC Santa Rosa 4-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.

The tall, menacing frontman gave Police the early ascendancy and, after Rosa briefly threatened a recovery following Osei Sandy’s second half item, Perry struck again with a fine low drive into the far corner to restore his team’s two goal lead. Substitute Keion Wilson then rubbed salt into the wounds of the ‘Rosa Nation’ with a fourth, as he stepped in off the left flank to blast past Santa Rosa custodian Joel Johnson.

It was disappointing outing for Rosa who failed to build on last week’s surprise win over Club Sando FC.

The result saw Rosa slip one place to fourth in the 12 team standings with seven points from five matches. Police are fifth with six points, although they have a game in hand.

In Guayaguayare, Cunupia FC regained third place with a 2-1 win over hosts Guaya United thanks to a goal from captain and key striker, Kevon ‘Showtime’ Woodley on his return from international duty with the Trinidad and Tobago Beach Soccer Team.

Woodley’s fifth goal of the season brought him level with Defence Force striker Devorn Jorsling at the top of the Division One scoring charts.

Morvant Caledonia AIA got their decisive items from an unlikely source as central defender Radanfah scored twice off of set pieces in their 4-2 win over QPCC at St Mary’s College grounds in Serpentine Road.

The win saw the ‘Eastern Stallions’ maintain their 100 per cent record, as they trail Defence Force by only goal difference after four matches. For the ‘Parkites’, they lead twice today but could not hold on. QPCC have two draws and two defeats from their four outings so far this season.
