Acting CoP promises to bring Warner to book… eventually

Trinidad and Tobago’s acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams said the Police Service has accepted DPP Roger Gaspard’s advice to investigate his line minister and ex-FIFA vice-president Jack Warner over a June 2011 bribery scandal involving disgraced former Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Mohamed Bin Hammam.

Williams warned that, although the alleged crime was committed in front of dozens of witnesses and caught on video with audio soundtrack to boot, citizens should not expect any rapid pronouncements—as was the case recently with a slap-happy plainclothes policeman and the clumsy, “I-am-not-drunk” junior National Security Minister Collin Partap.

The Warner investigation, according to the acting CoP, will be “done by the book” and not rushed.

Wired868 is uncertain whether Williams means that the timing of the eventual Police report would be guided by an investigative handbook or the Election & Boundaries Commission (EBC) rulebook, which dictates that Trindad and Tobago is due a general election in 2015.
