Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar brushed aside queries as to the suitability of new National Security Minister Jack Warner. Everything from a prima facie case at FIFA level to eyewitness and video accounts in Trinidad and Tobago were mere allegations or else “somebody would be in jail.”
The PM sidestepped the fact that her Government, which portrays itself as a tough on corruption, has never initiated a probe on Warner while the Police Commissioner refused the DPP’s instructions to conduct a proper investigation on his new line Minister.
How can allegations ever be proven without investigation?
Warner, who is no stranger to irony, vowed to investigate complaints of corrupt policemen in Five Rivers within seven days.
Of course, by the PM’s logic, if police officers or anyone else was really guilty of committing crime then they would already be in jail. The National Security Ministry should be a piece of cake now.
