Is English the first language of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard?
The DPP was unimpressed with Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs’ assertion that a police probe into bribery allegations surrounding Warner should be closed and retorted with: “you need to go further with the investigation” and “I have not cleared anybody.”
Does everyone get what he is saying?
Attorney General Anand Ramlogan still didn’t feel Gaspard was being precise. So, yesterday, the AG told the Trinidad Express that “beyond a shadow of a doubt” the DPP was trying to say there was nothing to substantiate further police investigation and it is possibly only a matter for Customs.
Warner was Minister of Transport at the time of the alleged infraction and, as such, was the line minister for Customs officials. Police never interviewed over three dozen witnesses who were present at the time of the incident and the DPP described the evidence submitted as “threadbare.”
Fortunately for Warner, the AG is not particularly fond of probes; except when it involves important stuff like abandoned churches in Guanapo, missing pianos at the PM’s residence and guest books at Tobago villas.
