Soca star Kees Diefenthaller treated school children and volunteers with a rendition of his Olympic song, “We are conquerors”, at the inaugural Paralympic School Day at the Jean Pierre Complex on Friday 18 May.

The event, which was staged by the Trinidad and Tobago Paralympic Committee (TTPC), aimed to increase awareness and appreciation of Paralympic sport and to demonstrate sport’s capacity to better lives.

Apart from Kees, MC Errol Fabien, a comedian and executive director at Gayelle TV, offered the proceedings some star dust. But the real hero was 14-year-old St Joseph Secondary student Anthony Kipps, who, as International Inspiration Young Sport Leader, will carry the Paralympic torch for part of its journey in London this August.

There were just under 100 students involved in Friday’s event and TTPC president Kenneth McKell hopes to help the country amass a cadre of top athletes for the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Games.
